One of Qulliit’s objectives includes developing public awareness of issues affecting women. Women’s health is one of the important priorities of Qulliit. The present project on Women and Cancer in Nunavut was originally initiated in 2001 and its focus was only on breast cancer. The purpose was to provide support for survivors and to increase awareness of breast health in Nunavut, and to develop comprehensive community level capacity building initiatives. However, we have expanded our project to include other types of cancer, for research has shown that many women in Nunavut are dealing also with other forms of cancer such as cervical and lung cancers. In addition, we participate and support other groups and organizations working for the well-being and health of women and their families. Thus, our goal is to improve the health and well-being of women and their families in Nunavut by providing and exchanging information to women of all communities; increasing awareness and accessibility to health education and services; and strengthening and promoting networking, support, advocacy, and collaboration.
