So, how does a small town Kansas boy who had always wanted to be a physicist(seriously) end up as a photographer in Halifax? Well, instead of University of Kansas(Rock Chock Jayhawk!) I ended up getting accepted the the U. Naval Academy. After four years in Annapolis, MD trying not to get into trouble, I accepted a commission in the US Navy and spent six years traveling the world on three different warships, first in Asia then the Mediterranean. It was on my last ship, USS Deyo(DD 989), that pulled into Halifax for a port visit and my fate was sealed. I met Risa on that visit and we were married about a year later. I got out of the Navy about six months after that, moved up here, and started on a career that combines equal measures of the technical and the creative. Imogen was born in 1999, but I'm having a hard time remembering a time when she wasn't in my life. During the early years of my career, siri was a press photographer. My “claim to fame” is that I proudly hold the title of the first, female press photographer in Nova Scotia. At the Chronicle Herald, I learned to: read light, work to a tight deadline and always get the shot. I developed confidence, determination and the art of storytelling. In the last ten years or so, I started shooting more corporate-driven work. The clients, the professionalism and the structure of the assignments are all appealing to me. In commercial photography, I use all of my photographic skills - simultaneously- and it is creatively rewarding.
