In 1851, five logging operators were sharing the forest industry. They were also trading with England, who needed the wood to buid its boats. Between 1852 and 1855, form La Tuque to the Three-Rivers (Trois-Rivières) much work is being done to develop the forest industry such as, pillars, stockades and timber slides. For nearly 150 years, the driving and floating of wood marked the history of Grandes-Piles.
