In 2002 we began building our dream – an orchard of heritage apples on 27 acres of land in beautiful Gabriola Island, British Columbia, Canada. We started with uncultivated scrub brush. We tilled the land. We created our own locally sourced compost to feed the soil. We built a nursery and trellised rows for our unique stock of heavy fruiting dwarf trees. And we built a cider barn and roadside stand to sell our crop and ciders. Today our orchard has over 1, 000 trees across two acres, with 25 different varieties of apples…and we’re still growing. Our apples are not the same old varieties you will find in your typical grocery store… They are heritage trees – apple varieties that once grew wild on farms, in gardens and hedgerows across the country, but that have been lost to everyday consumers. We are dedicated to bringing these full flavors of the past back to blossom using best practices and organic methods… So please join us for our u-pick orchards or a drink of our rich blended sweet cider, based on old-fashioned East Coast recipes. Ravenskill Orchards is a popular destination on Gabriola Island, known for its delicious ciders and friendly atmosphere. Customers appreciate the opportunity to sample various flavors through bottle flights, and enjoy the beautiful scenery and pet-friendly patio. Favorites include the ginger apple, old farmhouse dog scrumpy, and citrus hopped ciders. The cheese plates are also a hit, and some visitors have reported live music in the summer.
