En janvier 1944, l'ACFA proposait déjà la construction d'un centre communautaire. En 1997, on procède à l'ouverture de la phase I et en juin 2010 à celle de la phase II. Aujourd'hui, la grande majorité des organismes francophones habitent les 104 000 pieds carrés du centre. La Cité est dorénavant un lieu de rassemblement et d’épanouissement pour la communité francophone d'Edmonton.
