Merv Mauthe is a prominent Winnipeg musician and teacher who has been active in the music industry for over 35 years. His formal training as a keyboard player began at a very young age, and it was not long before he was playing engagements in dance bands throughout Winnipeg, arranging music for various groups and sitting in on as many jazz sessions as he could find. During this time he also studied and performed on other instruments including sax, clarinet, guitar and bass, and refined his arranging skills through studies with the Berklee School of Music. This lead to touring throughout Western Canada with nightclub bands, and being a member of orchestras that backed up many of the major acts that came through Winnipeg including the "Ice Capades", Bob Hope, and jazz artisits like Billy Cobham and Louie Bellson.
