The Douglas Baptist Church was a daughter of the older Free Baptist Church of Keswick. It is reported that Sunday School and Sunday services were held in the Douglas Community Hall. Rev. J.E. Reud pastored in Douglas up to 1888. The Baptist yearbook gives the date of organization as 1880. The first church was built in 1901. • Improvements to the church were made: steel sheathing added to walls and ceiling in 1905; a steeple added in 1917-18; electric lights installed in 1933; basement added for Sunday School rooms and furnace as well as new walls and ceiling in 1948-51.
