About the Mediated Learning Academy The Mediated Learning Academy is a new and innovative school for children from Kindergarten to Grade Twelve. Children learn through mediated learning experiences and “brain-based” teaching. Sponsored by the Variety Learning Centre, the Mediated Learning Academy thrives through small, focused classes. The mediational teacher helps the learner recognize the thinking processes that goes into solving a problem. Founded in 2002, when it made its home in a pair of cast-off portable classrooms, the Mediated Learning Academy found that it was filling a need unaddressed by the public school system, and has now grown to a student population of over a hundred students drawn from all over the Lower Mainland. We now have a school buildings bustling with students and teachers, but retain our principles of tailored and individual teaching, with small class sizes (we try to stay smaller than 10 students in a class), and sufficient support for teachers to allow our students to learn to the very best of their abilities.
