Air passengers and cargo fly to destinations throughout British Columbia, across Canada and around the world on local, regional, national and international airlines. B.C.'s aviation system is supported by a network of 290 land-based airports and aerodromes, heliports, and water aerodromes. Over 22 per cent of Canada's air passengers fly in or out of British Columbia, helping to make Vancouver International Airport Canada's second busiest airport and a major West Coast gateway.
The following services are available from Abbotsford, Kelowna, Richmond, Vancouver, and Victoria:
Provide information on the requirements for issuing and maintaining of Commercial Air Operator Certificates, Flight Training Unit Operating Certificates and related Operations Specifications
Administer and issue operating certificates and specifications for Commercial Air Operators and Flight Training Units
Conduct fixed and rotary wing Pilot Proficiency Checks (PPC's) including Instrument Rating Renewals
Provide information on the requirements, certification and monitoring of the Approved Check Pilot (ACP) Program pertaining to Commercial Air Operators and Pilot Examiners and Authorized Persons pertaining to Flight Training Units
Conduct audits, inspections, validations and assessments of Commercial Air Operators and Flight Training Operators
Conduct aircraft inspections
Conduct Ramp Checks on Commercial Air Operators and Flight Training Unit aircraft and crews
Provide information on the requirements, certification and monitoring of Full Flight Simulator (FFS) and Flight Training Device (FTD) training and checking programs
Conduct In-flight Inspections on Commercial Air Operator Flight Crews
Testing and monitoring of the flight training industry
Provide guidance to Flight Training Units on licence standards
Educate and create awareness of occupational safety and health issues facing operators
Investigate complaints from flight crew personnel regarding occupational safety and health issues within an aircraft
Provide Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) by air information and monitoring of TDG activity
Cabin Safety certification information and monitoring of cabin safety activity
