Lorisa Stein, Family Law Lawyer, Toronto, ON

I attended Queen’s University for my law degree, Carleton University and University of Toronto for my Master’s degree in Political Sciences (Public Policy), and Western University and Universidad Iberoamericana for my Honours BA. Earning three degrees attending seven universities in five cities over 15 years shows my commitment, determination and dedication to following my dreams.
I am a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Board of Directors of Collaborative Practice Toronto, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), and the International Academy of Collaborative Practitioners (IACP).
For more than a decade I’ve acted on my belief in the value of mentoring, offering new lawyers in solo practice a chance to share their concerns and develop their skills. I am the founder of the South Toronto Collaborative Small Practice Group, which offers new practitioners a regular forum in which to parlay their training into business development. I have learned that giving back to the community teaches humility, trust, and resourcefulness.
I have developed private charitable endeavours for as long as I’ve been a family law lawyer, such as mentoring young adults seeking to learn life skills. In addition, I’ve been involved for three years with the ROM as an Ambassador of the ROM Royal Patron Circle.
On a personal level, in addition to my passion for practising family law, I committed myself on New Year’s Eve 1994 to learning a new sport or developing an existing skill to a new level every winter and summer. Facing the many setbacks and challenges, on my own or with a team, has delivered cherished results, and demonstrates my high level of perseverance and commitment.
