Carolyn completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Alberta in 1990 and her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, California, in 1998. Carolyn has been trained in and informed by several schools of thought/theories: Jungian Psychology/ Depth Psychology, Self-Psychology, Systems, Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Hakomi Body-Centered Psychotherapy (current study), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. As you read this, these schools- of- thought may be of particular interest and relevance to you, but they may not. What may be more important for you is to know what undergirds the training and approaches are fundamental beliefs.. What I bring to my therapeutic work beyond the training is the belief that psychological healing can happen only in a place of compassion, respect, non-judgment, and safety. So often, people come into counselling because they are in a crisis of some kind - personally or relationally. They are at a cross-roads; they are filled with indecision.. They may not know 'where to start' when I ask them what brings them into counselling, but they know that they feel very far away from themselves; they are very far away from contentment or happiness. Whatever the reason that is the catalyst for counselling, I believe that all individuals have the basic need to be seen and heard and honored in a safe context. So I start there.
