Laura Chanin, Vancouver, BC

Since she was a young girl, Laura has loved working with numbers. Her preference for math continued throughout her school years and eventually led to a career in financial services. Laura earned her Bachelor of Commerce degree in at UBC in 1987 and her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP®) designation in 2003. Following graduation, Laura worked as a Manager of one of BC Hydro’s Power Smart programs and later as a Product Manager at the Open Learning Agency for the Ministry of Advanced Education. During this time, Laura logged many hours at her ‘hobby job, ’ as a part-time tax preparer: a pastime which eventually turned into teaching tax preparation courses to others.
In 1999, Laura took a full-time position in the financial industry at a Credit Union. Once she had confirmed that helping people with their finances was her true calling, she moved to a large financial planning firm to focus on developing her own practice. In 2006 Laura joined Scotia Capital Inc. (previously DundeeWealth), where she specializes in helping professionals, business owners and their families create personalized retirement and estate plans.
