Description
Discover why Katherine Burnett loves loose leaf tea, and what inspired her to start Lady Bakers Tea Trolley.
Katherine Burnett has enjoyed a lifelong love of teas and tea times especially embracing the gift of hospitality handed down over the generations on Prince Edward Island. Currently she is recognized as a local tea expert as she continues to study the customs and traditions of this universal beverage through the certification program of the Specialty Tea Institute, the continuing education department of Tea USA Katherine is a member of the Tea Association of Canada. She promotes health benefits of tea consumption and promotes ethical sourcing by using teas from members of the Ethical Tea Partnership How did the name Lady Baker’s Tea Trolley come into being? There was a friend, 30 years Katherine’s senior, named Irene Baker, who for years, when Katherine was a young mother of 5 children, would invite her for tea time. She would get out her fine china and pamper Katherine for an hour or two with tea and homemade cookies, laughter and care. Many friends had nicknamed her ‘Lady Baker’ because she emanated the finer things of life - tea and caring! A listening ear and a hot cup of tea made perfect company! In 2001, ‘Lady Baker’ passed away and Katherine wanted to do something in her memory. Thus, a ministry to the homebound and elderly by sharing a cup of tea became the focus of a new found business in Charlotte, North Carolina. After catering tea parties in the south, Lady Baker’s Tea Trolley turned over a new leaf and in 2006 Katherine relocated to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, her birthplace and one of Canada’s most beautiful provinces. She set up a Tea Bar at the Charlottetown Farmers Market where she now offers a variety of premium loose leaf teas, gifts and tea accessories. Her Tea Team of fanatic tea lovers is busy blending, packaging, sending and serving her favourite beverage.
