Chalice is a Catholic charity that primarily supports community initiatives in developing countries through the sponsorship of children and elderly in need. We began our mission in 1996 as Christian Child Care International, an independent Canadian sponsorship organization. Our name changed to Chalice in January 2008.
We work closely with lay people, religious missionaries and local communities in their efforts to provide care for the many children and elderly caught in the dehumanizing grip of extreme poverty and lack of education. Those accepted into the sponsorship programme are received based on need with no regard for gender, race or religious affiliation.
Every Sponsor Site we assist is under local direction. We believe those who live and experience the difficulties of poverty in developing countries are also those most knowledgeable and capable of responding to its effects.
Chalice places special emphasis on helping to provide children with the chance to go to school and learn. We believe that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty.
