I have had a Carecana mortgage investment for nearly 20 years, but not by choice. I invested in a mortgage company called CareVest in 2006, which, like most financial organizations, allowed you to access all or some of your money should you need it in an emergency. However, a few years later, without any consultation with CareVest mortgage investors, the assets were transferred to an affiliated company called Carecana Management Corp in Calgary. We were not asked or told about the transfer until the process was finished. And guess what? SURPRISE! We cannot access our money!!!! Yes, you read that right. That's the new rule! You can only access a small percentage of your funds each year, and that's only if you remember to fill out a special form and apply in a tiny window of just 3 or 4 days in February. This is not an actual illegal scam, but it is shady and secretive regarding your ability to access funds in an emergency. I now have money in Carecana and I will NEVER actually be able to extract ALL OF IT, simply because no matter how little money is in the fund, I can only ask for a percentage of it. I would stay away from this one since there are so many better places to put your hard-earned money where you can access all of it anytime with only minutes to days of waiting.
