This beautiful coastline property was named after the original homesteader Annie Laurie Parker, who settled on the Bowen property in 1908 with her husband Frederick Albert Billington. As homesteaders, they fished, hunted and grew their own vegetables. Local logging was a source of revenue for the Billington family - using large Clydesdale horses, they would gather logs and take them to the water, headed to the mills.
Enterprising and energetic, Annie Laurie would row their three young children across Grafton Bay for their two mile walk to attend school. She would return to collect them at the end of the school day - despite the fact she could not swim!
Today, the property is owned by John and Joan Tennant (nee Billington), the grandaughter of Annie Laurie. Joan was born on the island, and she and her family derive endless enjoyment at Bowen.
