he Canmore Miners’ Union Hall has played an integral role in community life for a century, serving the community as a venue for meetings, social events, such as weddings, fundraisers and plays. The Union Hall is an important part of Canmore’s built heritage as the sole public building that dates back to Canmore’s earliest days. The Canmore Miners’ Union Hall was built by volunteers in starting in 1910 with completion around 1913 and is one of Canmore’s few remaining historic buildings. The Union Hall is managed by and home to the Pine Tree Players Canmore’s premiere community theatre group and the facility hosts many other cultural events such as "artsPeak "festival, the "Live on 7th" concerts series and the Mountain Arts Foundation events annually. The Union Hall is also a main focal point for many local community activities, dances and weddings. A number of significant improvements to the facility have been made recently making the Union Hall a more attractive venue for rental. Velour window coverings, wall lighting, regular annual floor refinishing, exterior signage, p/a & sound system, production & staging equipment, main entrance area, wheelchair accessibility and new kitchen(2006) and washroom facilities (2010) are some of the hall’s special features. See photo below of the exterior renovation completed May 2014.
