The Canmore Public Library was established in 1971 in the basement of the Roman Catholic Church Hall. The library was moved to a variety of locations during the years and in 1996 moved into a renovated liquor store where it stayed for 17 years. 
Canmore Public Library is a favorite among locals and visitors for its extensive book selection and beautiful surroundings. The cozy atmosphere, large windows, and mountain views are frequently mentioned as highlights. Some customers appreciate the children's section and the friendly staff. However, a few note that it can be noisy and only accept cash for certain transactions.
