Since 1998, the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) has worked to reduce homelessness in our city. A home is a precious thing many of us take for granted. The late Mr. Art Smith, a leading Calgary entrepreneur, politician and philanthropist, founded the CHF in order to create a unified front to fight homelessness. As of 2008, the Foundation received a new mandate: to end homelessness in Calgary in 10 years. The Foundation is moving forward on implementing Calgary’s 10 Year Plan in partnership with the many homeless serving agencies, the private sector, our government partners, the faith community, other foundations and all Calgarians to end homelessness in Calgary. The Calgary Homeless Foundation is praised for its significant role in helping individuals in need. Many express deep gratitude for the organization's assistance, particularly for providing housing. Some frontline workers suggest the agency could improve its referral process to help more people quickly, as they observe empty rooms in buildings and know individuals who could benefit.

At the Canadian Intensive Care Foundation (CICF), we raise funds for life-saving intensive care research and education. Saving lives in a crisis situation is what we are all about. At any time - regardless of age, income or geography - people find themselves in need of intensive care. Here, the most desperate cases are found. Here, research and education is most valuable. Here, knowledge can have the biggest impact on who lives and who does not. Four out of five ICU patients survive and recover in another area of the hospital. By providing some of the nation's leading intensive care researchers with grants, we ensure that tomorrow's most critically ill patients will enjoy better care and a greater chance of survival.

Through the work of community groups and volunteers, we provide about 2, 000 lunches each day. Lunches are prepared in our main kitchen, and in various other locations by community groups including retirees, parent groups and local businesses. Nourishment is available to any young person who arrives at school without enough to eat. BB4CK works with school staff members to identify needs and to plan how best to make sure hungry students get the nutrition required to think clearly and learn. By enabling better education outcomes, BB4CK gives students a hand up, not just a handout. Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids is an efficient and impactful charitable organization. Volunteers make and prepare lunches for nearly 1000 kids, and learn about the organization's mission to address food insecurity. The process is well-organized, and the team's dedication is noteworthy. A worthwhile experience for those looking to make a difference in their community.

The ASPB represents biologists in government, industry, consulting, education, not for profit and enforcement. The Society’s main purpose is to regulate the professional practice of biology in the Province of Alberta to protect the interests of the public. The ASPB is the only organization for biologists that is registered under Provincial laws, and it achieved this status in 1991 after the approval of The Professional Biologists Regulation and the Alberta Professional and Occupational Associations Registration Act.
