Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centres is a program of the provincial Department of Health create to provide hearing services to all Nova Scotians and speech-language services to preschool children and adults. Established in 1963, Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centres has grown from a single site on Robie Street in Halifax with five staff members to 120 professional clinicians and support staff working at 33 sites in 25 communities across the province. 21, 000 Nova Scotians make 55, 000 visits annually for treatment. Since its inception in 1999, the Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Foundation has reached out to the community for support and has made it possible to deliver important educational programming, purchase essential equipment, and expand the services offered by the Centres. Working with community volunteer leaders, families and friends of those who are hearing or speech impaired, our partners in government and the medical and academic communities, the Foundation seeks to raise funds to support critical Centres' needs. Open Referral Policy Adults and children may be referred to Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centres by any source, including physicians, schools, and concerned family members. Adults can call to make appointments without a medical referral. ** Some exceptions may apply.
